This project involved a re-brand pitch for a Dublin vintage clothes shop. I illustrated a series of art deco patterns from scratch, taking inspiration from my research of Art Deco gates, Jewellery, clothes, posters and more. The modern Art Deco font was referenced from a book on modernised art deco style fonts. The branding was used for business cards, boxes, tags and bags.
I conducted research by interviewing the owner who gave me a history of the family company and expressed her interest in a classic Art Deco style which could be applied to the brand and identity. I asked the owner during this process to give 5 descriptive words that reflected how she pictured the branding. The chosen words were classic, quality, eclectic, bold and distinctive.
Many other existing competitor vintage shops at the time sold mostly 80s and 90s clothes and had similar branding to those decades. The owner, who’s carefully selected collection ranged from the 20’s to the 80’s wished to have a brand that focused on the true vintage and quality nature of her clothes stock.
I made up the bags and boxes and photographed them on South Williams street in Dublin city, and within the shop also, in order to put together a visual of the brand and identity in place. This one one of my projects that first got me into Film Design, as it demonstrated to the recruiter that I was able to research and replicate old styles. While the shop did not go further in its application, I was happy as I soon began one of my first jobs in Ardmore studios on a period production based on this project.
